The Public Must Stand Up

I was apalled by the scandalous article, "DA, Agang Donor Plot Thickens" 05 February 2014 on The New Age making it to the front page. I expected to find harsh reactions to it but to my surprise there was none.

It reported that Mamphela Ramphele admitted that there was a contributor behind the DA and Agang union.

Is this unhealthy practice of "purchasing" candidates so embedded in our political system that we have become so numb to it appearing in headlines?

Usually, these articles are buried at the back pages. In other instances, they are paragraphs buried near the end of acceptable news reports.

To see it making headlines, it clearly not only shows the unhealthy state of affairs of the DA and Agang merger, but also sheds a light on public apathy about this political system.

We cannot allow this immoral business of campaigning for elections go unnoticed in our affairs.
