 Treat Mkhwebane Fairly

The competence of suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane cannot be judged based on her successes in the courts.

The way the president immediately suspended her after she followed up on a complaint around his conduct in the Phala Phala affair is unfair. Judges at the Constitutional Court are still deliberating whether that suspension was unlawful and unconstitutional, and whether she should be ordered to return to her office.

In the meantime, she is enduring being prejudiced in a section 194 inquiry that is costing the office of the public protector exorbitant legal costs. That is not fair.
