Politicians Should Be Held Accountable.

On August 16 2012, the police murdered vulnerable mineworkers at Marikana without firing a warning shot and no one is taking responsibility. After the massacre, the leaders said the police were acting in self-defence, but between a police contingent carrying deadly weapons and a small group of vulnerable workers carrying machetes, who would we say was acting in self-defence? Could leaders have tried to shift the blame on the victims?

Eight years later, the massacre can explain the current culture of unaccountability. Leaders have allegedly looted funds reserved for the poor in VBS Mutual Bank and no-one is taking responsibility. They are hiding behind the law and continue to play politics by shifting the blame among opponents.

Recently, leaders have looted funds reserved for the vulnerable to weather the COVID19 storm, and in this case too, no one has taken responsibility.

Of course, the ANC is not to be blamed. It did not send individuals to loot. These individuals, driven by greed, must be held accountable.
